Many of you have asked for an update on my friend Ashlie. Tomorrow starts chemo, so we both thought it would be a great time for her to share how she is doing. We decided to add
some photos of she and her sweet girl. Many of her friends and family have been supporting Ashlie with our Team Ashlie shirts. And many of those will be running in the Charlottesville Women’s 4 Miler in support of breast cancer research in a few weeks.
Please pray tomorrow for Ashlie, she appreciates the love and support!
At almost 8 weeks out from surgery, things are healing well and I am getting back into “normal” life. Just in time for the next step . . .
After some confusion about a test and some decisions made by my oncologist, we have an official plan for chemotherapy. I go next week to get my port put in and will have my first chemo infusion the next day. I will have 8 treatments over the course of 16 weeks. If we stay on track with the current schedule, I should be an official chemo grad just in time for Thanksgiving (although I have learned that there are few guarantees in this process!).
I cut my hair short, I bought a wig, I’ve learned all about every possible side effect, and I’m just about as prepared as I think I can get.
When I think of my emotions associated with this cancer journey, they are widely varied. I’m happy because I am growing. I am working on my relationship with God. I’m scared. I feel guilty. I feel angry. I feel thankful. I have new ideas about what’s important.
I am beyond grateful for my support system and many, many prayers. I need them now more than ever. Here goes round 2 . . . .
He shall cover you with His feathers,
And under his wings you shall take refuge;
His truth shall be your shield and buckler.
You shall not be afraid of the terror by night,
Nor of the arrow that flies by day,
Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness,
Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.
A thousand may fall at your side,
And ten thousand at your right hand;
But it shall not come near you.
Psalm 91: 4-7
Ashlie, I am so very proud of you. You got this girl! Many love and prayers are heading your way~
